“Lead Up -The Exhibition of the Chinese Fine Arts Critics’ Nominations 2009” will be given at the Museum of Contemporary Art Beijing (500, Daxing Zhuang Village, Songzhuang Town, Tongzhou District, Beijing) from November 7 to 22, and the opening will be at 2:30pm on November 7 (Sat. ). It is one significant event of the “Lead Up Art Forum (Lijiang)” that planned by Guan Yuda, famous art critic and curator, and Zhao Ye. Yang Wei has chaired the academic part.
“Lead Up Art Forum (Lijiang): Amending and Rewriting”, the First Academic Seminar on Chinese Contemporary Art, was hold in the middle of June this year successfully in Lijiang of Yunnan Provence. More than sixty critics on art or culture, poets, artists, and media, who are very active and have high reputation at the contemporary art world, were invited to the seminar. The abundant accomplishment achieved during it, and its great social repercussions, has been the most important witness to the development of the Chinese contemporary art. The exhibition is specifically to focus on the new artists and supposed to contribute to the contemporary art in China. More than thirty artists have been nominated by the sixteen critics invited by the academic committee. Being discussed and examined by them, finally, thirty-five new prominent artists have been approved. So far, they have achieved a fairly high academic standard, however, not being paid fully attention to yet. Supported by the fruits of the seminar, the exhibition will extend the range of the question to the Chinese contemporary art and the critics’ idea. Also, it will be a friendly cooperation and exchange between the artists and critics. Such great interaction will help to promote the critics and artists forward in the academic area of the Chinese contemporary art, present the various experiments and narrative structures of it against the global financial crisis, and prepare the stage more open for the future.
